We were tasked to create three trading cards that belong into a specific theme
and make it look like an actual trading card with card info and reoccuring back cover
January 2025
I decided to go for natural disasters as the theme for my own trading cards, and I
designed the cards by inspiring myself with their own power (or elements). An example of that would be
the fact that a tornado would be a wind element because it is composed out of strong winds in real life.
I added a fact for each natural disaster at the bottom of the card, and as for the back cover of the
cards, it is made from all the symbols of all the elements that exist in my mind.
The challenging part of this fun project was about coming up with drawings for each of the cards
as I was just starting on the Micromedia program, and I have not really drawn digitally prior to that
time.
I looked at real life pictures of each of the natural disasters online and did a
cartoonish version of each one. I used the pen tool to draw lines and used other tools in Illustrator to
achieve the look that I was going for. I changed the typography from black to white for readability purposes and I
was happy with the outcome in the end.
